Six Weeks of Service. 25 Days of Change. One Unforgettable Summer.
Welcome to American Jewish Society for Service! Our transformative Summer of Service gives high school students the chance to put their Jewish values into action. In the 62 years since our founding, AJSS programs have served nearly 150 communities in 47 states.
Community service is an integral facet of Jewish life and an important rite of passage for most high school students. We predate the Peace Corps and Habitat for Humanity, and over the years have always remained true to the idea that tikkun olam doesn't require a passport. It simply requires an open mind and commitment to helping others.
Please consider joining us for an experience that you will never forget, and one that will make an important difference in the lives of others.

New in 2013:
AJSS is joining forces with Young Judaea and Tivnu: Building Justice for J-Build Portland, a 25-day summer program addressing the current housing crisis in Oregon, recently declared the "most homeless" state in the nation. Participants will help build new structures and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges facing Portland's most vulnerable citizens. AJSS is offering J-Build in conjunction with our 25 Days of Change program.
Just 200 miles south of Portland in Roseburg, OR, AJSS will be partnering with San Diego-based Camp Mountain Chai for a 5-week Kavanah program. We will be working with the city of Roseburg and a community development agency to asses the needs of local residents, and to beautify public spaces in the community. Leadership development is at the core of the Kavanah program, ensuring that Kavanah participants will be able to effectively assume leadership roles in school, camp, and wherever life takes them in the future.
